Data Filtering

A filter narrows a table view to the rows you care about. It changes what the view shows, not what the table holds — nothing is deleted, and other people's views are unaffected.

Filters live on the table view, so a table can appear twice on the same canvas with a different filter on each.

Adding a filter

  1. Open the model canvas and select the table.
  2. In the details panel on the right, click Add Filter.
  3. Build one or more conditions.
  4. The view updates as the filter changes.

The button reads Edit Filter once a filter exists, and a Delete Filter control beside it removes the filter and restores the full view.

Conditions

A condition is a column, an operator, and usually a value.

OperatorApplies toMatches
EqualAny columnExactly the value given
Not EqualAny columnEverything except that value
Greater ThanOrdered values — numbers, dates, timestampsStrictly above
Greater Than or EqualOrdered valuesAt or above
Less ThanOrdered valuesStrictly below
Less Than or EqualOrdered valuesAt or below
ContainsTextThe value appears anywhere in the cell
Not ContainsTextThe value appears nowhere in the cell
Is NullAny columnThe cell is empty
Is Not NullAny columnThe cell holds something
InAny columnMatches any value in a list you give
Not InAny columnMatches none of them

In and Not In take several values rather than one, which is the quickest way to pick out a handful of known values without writing a condition for each.

Is Null and Is Not Null take no value at all.

Text comparisons carry a case-sensitivity toggle. Left off, ACME and acme match each other.

A categorical column offers its values in a picker rather than a free-text box, so you choose from what the column actually allows instead of typing a value it can never hold.

Combining conditions

Conditions sit in a group, and a group is joined by either AND or OR:

  • AND — every condition in the group must match.
  • OR — any one of them is enough.

Groups can be nested inside other groups, which is what lets you express something like "status is Active and (region is EU or priority is High)". Without nesting that question cannot be asked, because a single list of conditions can only be joined one way.

What a filter affects

Exports follow the filter. Downloading a filtered view as CSV or Parquet gives you the rows the view is showing, not the whole table. That is the simplest way to extract a subset without creating a new table for it.

The row count follows the filter, so the count under a filtered view is the number of matching rows.

Nothing is removed. Clearing the filter brings every row back, because the rows were never gone.
